Dr Bill Edgar’s main area of study is Australian colonial history, but his interest in the Boer War was ignited after an excursion to some of the notable South African Boer War battle sites with a party led by Michael (‘Midge’) Carter in 2000. Interest was re-ignited during an archaeological survey of the West Australia Hill site with John Adeney and Ray Ward early in 2019. A realisation came that the engagement that took place there was of far more importance than previously thought.
We hope this work will contribute toward a resurgence of interest in the 2nd Anglo-Boer war of 1899 - 1902, in which our young country, in her formative years, played such an important role.
